InkStak vs Reading Eggs: stories they want to read, or lessons that teach reading

They do different jobs. Reading Eggs is a reading program: structured lessons that teach phonics and reading skills. InkStak is a story maker: it writes new illustrated stories starring your child’s own characters. InkStak’s Kid Reads stories follow the UFLI Foundations phonics order, so they work as practice alongside a phonics program, but InkStak does not teach lessons or track mastery.

How to use them together

  1. Teach with the program. Let the lessons introduce each new sound pattern.
  2. Practice with a story. In InkStak, turn on Kid Reads, choose the level and slide to the lesson your child is on. The story uses only patterns taught up to that point, plus sight words, and opens with a page of its words to look for.
  3. Make it theirs. The hero can be your child, their dog or their favorite toy, which is often what turns practice into something they ask for.
  4. Move on. When they read on their own, the same characters carry into picture books and then chapter books.

InkStak’s four Kid Reads levels: Level 1 (lessons 1–34), Level 2 (lessons 35–53), Level 3 (lessons 54–76), Level 4 (lessons 77–98). Those are InkStak’s own groupings of the published UFLI order, not a Reading Eggs scope and sequence. If your child’s school uses a different program, match by the sound patterns, not the numbers.

Questions people ask

No. Reading Eggs teaches reading through structured lessons. InkStak writes new personalized stories, including phonics-matched Kid Reads stories, for practice and enjoyment alongside a program like that.

Not as lessons. Kid Reads stories use only the sound patterns taught up to a chosen point in the UFLI Foundations sequence, so a child practices what they have learned. InkStak does not track progress or teach new patterns.

Yes. Pick the level and slide to the lesson your child has reached; if the program follows a different order, match by the sound patterns on the level page.
